Lot of catching up

I know I haven't blogged in almost a year and there is a ton to catch up on, so I will work on catching everyone up on what the Martin's have been up to soon. I know I need to go all the way back to August last year. Bailey crawled in September, Brennen turned 4 in October, Camrey turned 6 in November, I ran my first 5k in November, my second in February, I went to Vegas to celebrate turning 30, I ran my first half marathon in April 2010 and my second half marathon a week later, Bailey walked at 10 months old, and turned 1 in March 2010. Corey just drew out for a bull elk, so we will have some hunting stories to tell. This is just a recap and once I get my pictures on the computer I will share all the good times.

Baby birds

Every year since we have been in our house Robin's have laid eggs in the nest in the tree right outside our front room window. This year two baby birds are hanging out in the nest so I wanted to share some cute pictures

Check out these moves

Yep, it is official Bailey has rolled from her back to her stomach. It will not be long until she is rolling all over. She rolled for the first time yesterday 6/23. She is just 3 months and 4 days old and is starting to roll. Camrey rolled this early and was crawling at 6 months. Does that mean I only have 3 more months before Bailey is really mobile? Corey put her on her back on the floor and left the room. When he came back she was on her tummy. He just thought that he had put her that way, but then realized that she had rolled. So he got out the camcorder and sure enough she rolled again. This morning I put her on the floor to try again and yep she rolled three times this morning. This footage was from this morning. She starts on her back, lifts her feet and legs up, kicks them over to the side and then keeps pushing until she is on her belly.

Father's Day 2009

My last post was all about us camping and nothing about how great of a Dad Corey is. I feel bad because on Mother's Day Corey got up and played with Bailey so I could sleep a little longer, and he made breakfast so I didn't have to. Well on Father's Day we were up camping and I didn't make Corey wake up with Bailey at 6:00 am but when you are crammed into the ghetto trailer and Bailey cries pretty much everyone is awake so he didn't get to sleep in. Then I made him cook breakfast out in the rain. Poor fella! I just want Corey to know I Love You! No matter how many times I say it, it is still true yesterday, today, and the rest of eternity. You are a wonderful husband and father. Thanks for being you.

Also, I need to tell my Dad Happy Father's Day. My Dad is one of those guys that will do anything he can for anybody. He is constantly taking care of people in his ward. He does the same for my family and me. Whenever I need help watching the kids he is right there willing. He tries to call all of his kids at least once a week. We have all come to think that something must be wrong if he doesn't give us our regular Sunday call. Dad, thank you for all that you do and for your great example of service.

Happy Father's Day to Corey's Dad as well. When we had our big snow storm in October it broke our willow tree right down the middle. Corey had to go and cut a bunch of branches out of the tree so there wasn't so much weight. One Saturday while Corey was still at work and I was about 7 or 8 months pregnant, Corey's Dad came over and cut all of the branches to smaller pieces and stacked them into nice neat piles. He didn't even come to the door to let me know he was there he just went right to work. And when he was done he just left. Corey's Dad is also willing to help whenever he can. We appreciate all that Corey's family does for us. So Terry, thank you for all that you do and for all your help.

What's better than Lagoon in the rain?

Camping in the rain! Saturday 6/13, Corey and I get an itch to go camping. Corey says, "I'm half tempted to load up now and head up tonight." I said, "I would be game, but I have to teach the lesson in Young Women tomorrow." (which it was a good thing I went because the other teacher didn't show up) So we tentatively planned to go this weekend 6/20. Well, we heard the weather reports that said the showers were hit and miss and nothing major. We decided to head up Ogden Canyon and find somewhere up there to camp. Then we get a message from our brother-in-law, Brian, that says they want to go camping too and we can join them at their property up the same canyon. We get all the food purchased and packed up and the trailer all hooked up, all was looking good and then we get a call that Brian and Melanie can't get their trailer because the repair place was closed. Dang it! Well Corey and I were still game for camping so off we went up the canyon. By this time it was down pouring and I am thinking to myself, "self are we nuts?" (just kidding I don't talk like that) As we get further up the canyon it is still wet, but not bad. We ended up in the Meadows up South Fork. We got a really good spot where the trees helped keep us a little less wet. We get a fire going for Hobo dinners and while those are cooking the kids are playing in the nature.

By the time we were ready to eat the kids were soaked.

So I get them in the trailer and take off their wet clothes and we wait for Corey to bring us the food. We get done eating and there is another break in the storm so we went for a little walk to see if we could see any animals. We saw birds and squirrels and that was it.

It's sad that it is the end of June and I was in a snow coat.

The scenery was beautiful though

Back at the camp... Bailey was a trooper the whole weekend
I love this look and I love her big brown eyes!
Camrey and Brennen had fun outside and inside. In this picture they were in their pajamas and I thought they were going to stay in for the rest of the night. Nope... I was wrong, they got dressed again after this and came outside for more rain play.

The weather ended up clearing up right after we put the kids to bed. The stars were beautiful for about 15 minutes and then the clouds came again. We went to bed and I crashed until about 3:30 am. Corey got up to get the heater going again and so I was up. We were starting to go back to sleep when Brennen started to make some noises so I stood up and got up to their level and he grabbed me in a big hug, obviously still asleep, and said, "Goodnight, I love you" I say obviously because the night was almost over, but that is his routine and it was forgotten. Then I felt something wet. I asked Brennen if he had an accident and he said, "yes, I need new pajamas huh" I kept filling and decided to smell my hand and realized he didn't have an accident it was our trailer leaking. Yes, we have a ghetto trailer, but for the last two years we have not had any problems. So I told Brennen to move away from the wet area and go back to sleep which he did. We made it thru the night and overall had a pretty positive experience even with all the rain. On Sunday we were supposed to meet up with Corey's sister and family and go up to their property for the day to do some fishing and such. We got all packed up and met up with them. By the time we got to their property a pretty good storm was moving in so we decided to fish and then go home. I sat in the truck with Bailey so she wouldn't get soaked. The kids loved fishing, thanks Melanie and Brian.

Lagoon update

Thursday 6/18 we went to Lagoon... again. Thursday happened to be the first nice day in a while which means everyone went to Lagoon that day. Super crowded! I stuck it out though because Corey had to work the night shift so what else was I going to do? Well we met up with my sister and family. The first ride they went on with my kids was the Scrambler. See this is the before picture, my kids smiling and not scared at all.

Fast forward and my kids get off the ride and say they never want to ride that again! They were super freaked out. Oh well, I will try to talk them into it next year. Next,we made our way to kiddie land, after a brief stop at Safety and Security for a band aid for my niece, Camrey went on Jumping Dragon with Kiley, Ashley, Brealyn, and I went on Lady Bug Bop with Brennen. I told him he only had to try it once and... drum roll please... he will not go on that ride again this year. Dang! That is strike two! So then we get done with that and Camrey, Brealyn, Kiley, and Ashley are all in line for Dino Drop. I join them so I can ride with Camrey. I told her she only had to try it once and... drum roll... that is all she will ride this year. Dang! That is strike three! I'm out! Oh well, at least they will ride all the other rides. Plus, it is harder when they want to ride rides where they need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. I can't leave Bailey to ride with them so they miss out on Odyssey a lot and Jumping Dragon. Good thing most of the others are perfect sized and speed for the kids.

Lagoon June 2009

I have enjoyed this rainy weather by taking the kids to Lagoon. Why? you ask. Well when it is raining not many people go to Lagoon so lines are non existant. I go totally prepared with poncho's and the kids dressed warm. So far so good except for last Saturday when we got down poured on in a matter of minutes and we were rushing out to the cars. Luckily Bailey stayed nice and dry and the kids don't mind being a little wet, but with the poncho's they stayed pretty dry.
It took me a while to convince Brennen to ride the Dragonfly. I told him he only needed to try it once and if he hated it then he didn't have to ride it again. Guess what?!? He loved it!

Camrey was so daring and rode Kontiki all by herself because I can't ride with them with Bailey being so little. Then Brennen decided to try with her and both love it. Next challege, to get them to ride Lady Bug Drop or Dino Drop.

And at the end of the day with little to no rain on this visit, I got this pretty cool picture by the Lagoon fountain that usually my kids love to play in and get wet. The kids were a little scared to stand this close to the fountain because they thought they were going to get wet.

Bailey's Baby Blessing

On Sunday, June 7, 2009 Corey gave Bailey her name and a blessing. It was rainy and chilly, but it was a perfect day. I stressed so much about getting my house clean and getting the food and having enough of it and about getting to church on time, I almost didn't enjoy the day, but when it was all said and done everything went great and I have no complaints. I am so grateful that Corey is a worthy priesthood holder and honors that priesthood so that he can give the necessary blessings for our family. Here are a few pictures of the day.
Grandpa Joel and Bailey. My Dad is so cute! He loves being a Grandpa.

Grandpa Bob and Bailey. Bob is married to my Mom. He loves being Grandpa and it is funny because he rarely holds the little, little babies because he says they are too small.

Me, Bailey and Grandma Martha

Bob's Mom Grandma Whittle and Bailey
4 generations: Grandma Poorte, my Dad, Me, and Bailey

Corey, Me, Bailey, Gram and Gramp (Corey's Mom and Dad)

Corey, Me, Bailey, Grandpa Joel and Grandma T (My Dad and Tonya)

Our cute little family. Brennen was ready to be out of church clothes. As soon as we got home from church he was changed.

Bailey Afton Martin. It's official. By the time we took this picture she had had enough. She was ready to be out of her dress (who wouldn't blame her that is a lot of dress) and snuggle up with her Mom and go to sleep.

We love you Bailey!

Hiking Waterfall Canyon

A couple of weeks ago I got an itch to go hiking. I love this time of year because the kids can be outside and getting exercise which means I can get outside and get exercise. So I got home from work one Friday and we headed up to Waterfall Canyon in Ogden. At first I didn't think we were going to make it up to the top because Brennen kept saying he was tired and needed a break. Once we got to the more shaded part of the hike Brennen didn't complain anymore.
Corey stopped to take some scenery pictures as he was waiting for Brennen to catch up. Everything was so beautiful up there.

One of our breaks. I think we were all pink cheeked even Bailey and she slept most of the time.

Corey always the entertainer wanted us to know we were going that way :)
This kids loved the bridges
Like I said it was really pretty up there.

Look close it is a purple butterfly... ahhh nature
and surprise, surprise... we saw a snake. This was a good sized snake. Other hikers mentioned they saw a rattle snake. We did not see it. We only saw this snake and I was fine with the picture taking because Corey was doing it and I was making sure the kids didn't try to touch it. This is not a poisonous snake. Corey says it is all talk and no show.
Yay! We made it!

Bailey was happy to be out of the baby carrier for a minute.
Camrey and Brennen didn't want to stop hiking. They started climbing on all the rocks.

Bailey was extremely good the entire hike. Once we were to the top I realized that it was her eat time. But as you can see she was happy with her tongue sticking out.

I had an extra traveler on the way down. This traveler I didn't mind and then it just flew away.

What goes up must come down.
I must say my kids did awesome on this hike and I am not afraid to go on another hike. I thought Bailey was going to be a crank bucket by the time we were to the bottom, but she surprised us and was good the whole way down. Then I realized I brought a bottle with water but no formula... Gue! I suck as a mom... and this isn't my first rodeo what is my problem?!? We ran to the store and got formula so she didn't starve.
